Halentine's 2/2/24

Halentine's 2/2/24

It’s been beautiful out lately.  That sideways light that early spring brings for much of the day is truly magical and puts a little pep in my step each day.  On the few days that hit 70 degrees last week I caught faint whiffs of floral fragrance in the air and heard the chorus of hundreds of frogs.  Seems early for frog song, but I guess when the mood strikes and ambient temps facilitate romance to course through your cold blooded veins, you have no choice but to serenade.
Flowers are trickling in with a slight increase in velocity, but not enough to satisfy everyone quite yet.  It’s coming though, I promise.
I know Valentine’s, Galentine’s, and Halentine’s (for those who love someone named Hal) are coming up and we may not have enough flowers to satisfy everyone for that week, but we do have something even better……A flower subscription for a month’s worth of flowers for that special someone in your life.  We only have them for March and April and slots are limited, so now’s the time to grab one. This is the perfect way to share all of spring’s beauty with someone you love (even if that someone is yourself) in a more lasting way.  They’ll not only be overwhelmed by the beauty of these flowers constantly for a whole month, but will also be constantly reminded of how awesome you are as well.  2 birds.  One scone.
We’ve also added versatility to the subscriptions this spring too.  Not only can you select just poppies every week if that’s your preference (lotta requests for this last year), but we’ve made it so that if you select the regular spring subscription, you can now select 2 varieties of flowers that you don’t want in your subscription.  Some people LOVE hellebores and fragrant daffodils, and some people do not.  Different strokes to move the world, so we made it easier to ensure you get what you love and avoid what you don’t.  If you’d like to do this for someone you love for Valentine’s, do so quickly, so we can send a physical copy of the subscription in time for the holiday.  You can do that here.
I get emails about this constantly, so I’m pleased to say that we’ll be launching our dahlia tuber sale this coming Sunday at 8am!  Wait no more!  The varieties we’re listing are ones that we’ve isolated over the last decade to be the very best that any southern flower grower could want.  If you’re tired of wasting year after year trying to grow beautiful dahlias like the ones you saw in the Pacific Northwest, only to have them filled with insects and diseases and producing flowers too stressed to last in a vase, then we’ve got the solution for you.  These are all heat tolerant, disease resistant, beautiful and productive.  We’ll also give you all the tips we’ve used to have successful dahlia crops in the sultry south when everyone said it couldn’t be done.  We cracked the code and now we’re sharing it with y’all, so check out our website on Sunday at 8am… we'll also send you an email with a link! Make sure to follow our growing guidelines provided with each purchase to ensure success.  All the books on dahlias currently give bad advice to southern growers, but we’ve got yer back and will tell you how we grow successful dahlia crops every year on a fairly large scale with minimal pest pressure and heat stress.
You may have seen Mandy’s Instagram post today about Floret’s new line of seeds that they’ve been developing for the last 7 years, but if not, preview it here.  They are just releasing them for the first time this coming Tuesday and you’ll be amazed at the gorgeous varieties they’ve been working so hard to breed.  Not to mention that so many of these new to the world blooms are varieties that southern growers will love.  The celosia and zinnia colors they’ve bred are truly everything we dreamed about when we were designers and they grow like weeds here in the south.  We’re certain that they’ll be all the rage with designers, florists, and market customers this year, so check em out!  We can’t wait to have a ton of these on the farm this summer!
That’s it for me. We hope y’all have a great weekend and can get out for a little hike or just a passeggiata through the neighborhood to take in a snapshot of the season.
Be well!
Steve
